Music in the park: the enchantment of the Chopin Festival

Although the music of Frédéric Chopin is enchanting when performed in a concert hall, it becomes quite simply magical in a setting such as the Parc de Bagatelle. In the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, the largest green space in the capital, the Société Chopin invites you to enjoy an exceptional occasion: the Chopin Festival. This 37th edition is sure to live up to its superb reputation. To make the most of it, book a room at the Hotel Auteuil Tour Eiffel in the very elegant 16tharrondissement, close to the famous Iron Lady, symbol of Paris.

A superb setting and choice programme

From June 18th to July 14th, the 37th Chopin Festival will take place in the Parc de Bagatelle. Created in 64 days as the result of a wager between Marie-Antoinette and her brother-in-law the Comte d’Artois, the château and its park were designed for relaxation and walks just outside Paris. Ancient trees, groves, reflective pools, waterfalls and a superb rose garden with no fewer than 10,000 specimens constitute a unique and bucolic setting in which Chopin's romanticism is perfectly expressed. There, on mild summer evenings and amidst an atmosphere of refinement and elegance, the musicians capture all the beauty of the great Polish composer. The festival is also inclusive, providing a showcase for acclaimed concert performers as well as young pianists with a bright future. As a way of placing Chopin in the context of his time and musical tradition, the festival also features pieces that show the composer’s filiation or inspirations. Thus, this year, a tribute will be paid to Beethoven.

A rich and full programme

The difficult but very rewarding task of opening the festival will fall this year to the Spanish classical pianist Martin Garcia Garcia, who will perform several waltzes by Chopin and Mozart. On June 19th, throughout the afternoon, seven young virtuosos will play Chopin's pieces in the gardens as part of the open house. On this occasion, admission will be free, although payment is required to access the park. The other dates alternate between candlelit evening concerts, accentuating the magic of the moment, and concerts on weekend afternoons. Finally, Abdel Rahman El Bacha will conclude this 37th edition of the Chopin Festival in style with an interpretation of the Polonaises op. 44 and op. 53, two nocturnes by Chopin and two sonatas by Beethoven. You can find the complete programme on the event website, where you can also reserve your seats.

During your stay at the Hotel Auteuil Tour Eiffel, you will only be fifteen minutes by car from the Parc de Bagatelle, the venue of the Chopin Festival. Take advantage of your break in the capital to attend one or more of these concerts in the bucolic, refined and distinctly Parisian surroundings of the Bagatelle. Our team will, of course, be at your service to help you arrange your festival visit!
