Posted in Hotel le
This autumn, the Fondation Louis Vuitton presents one of the major artistic events of the Paris cultural season. From October 9, 2026 to March 8, 2027, the exhibition Gustave Fayet, Collector – Creator. Icons of Modern Art shines a new light on an essential yet relatively little-known figure in the history of modern art. A remarkable cultural experience to enjoy during a stay at Hôtel Auteuil Tour Eiffel.
Gustave Fayet, a Passionate Collector and Artist
Painter, collector and creator, Gustave Fayet (1865–1925) was one of the great art enthusiasts of the early 20th century. At a time when some artists were still far from achieving the recognition they enjoy today, he assembled an exceptional collection.
For the first time in a century, the Fondation Louis Vuitton brings together more than 250 works from this collection, now dispersed around the world. Visitors will notably have the opportunity to admire 10 paintings by Vincent van Gogh, 78 works by Paul Gauguin and 88 works by Odilon Redon.
Cézanne, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, Berthe Morisot, Signac, Bonnard, Vuillard and Matisse complete this impressive journey through modern art.
An Exceptional Exhibition in Two Parts
The originality of the exhibition also lies in its ambition: Gustave Fayet is presented not only as a collector, but also as an artist in his own right.
Spread throughout the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the exhibition explores two sides of his personality. The first tells the story of how his collection was assembled and reveals his perspective on the artists of his time. The second introduces visitors to Fayet the creator, through 325 of his own works, many of which have never before been shown to the public and have been restored especially for the occasion.
Collection, creation and artistic commitment come together to portray a man deeply engaged with the modernity of his era.
An Artistic Escape from Hôtel Auteuil Tour Eiffel
Located at 8 Avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, in the Bois de Boulogne, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is also worth visiting for its spectacular architecture designed by Frank Gehry. Opened in 2014, the building has become one of Paris’s leading destinations for modern and contemporary art.
From Hôtel Auteuil Tour Eiffel, this exhibition is an excellent idea for an autumn cultural outing in western Paris. After your visit, take the opportunity to enjoy a walk through the Bois de Boulogne or return to the Auteuil and Passy neighbourhoods to round off the day.
From Van Gogh, Gauguin and Redon to Gustave Fayet’s own creations, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to rediscover the beginnings of modern art through the eyes of a visionary collector.
